Dear Parents,
During this
summer term, the Blackbirds class will be following a unit of work on the theme
of ‘INDIA’. Where possible we will be linking as many areas of the curriculum
as we can to this theme. Key skills will be achieved through our work on India.
- In Literacy, our focus will be on Stories from
other cultures, Information texts, (including persuasive texts and adverts)
and poems to perform.
- Numeracy will follow the renewed Primary Framework
for Mathematics.
- In Science we will be learning about Habitats and
helping plants grow well.
- In Art/D.T we will look at pattern in Indian art
and textiles as a starting point to our own textile work. W e will also be
making items to sell at our Taste of India fete..
- In Music we will be learning some Indian songs and
hopefully dances!
- In I.C.T. we will be working with I.C.T.
specialist, Julia Blake on logo and following the new Northants County
I.C.T. Scheme.
- R.E. and P.S.H.E will focus on different religions
in India and Christianity in Action. We have Julie Foster who heads up
Children United (a charity which helps schools in India),coming in and
then as a class we will hold a Taste of India Fayre for the whole school
and parents to raise money for this charity.-Thurs24th June, after our
class assembly.
- In Cookery Mrs Wainwright will be working with the
class to make some Indian treats!

P.E. this term focuses on games and athletics and Swimming,(2nd
half term).
The Blackbirds Parent assemblies
are on Thursday 29th April and 24th June at 9am. We look
forward to seeing as many of you as are able to come. Our fundraiser Fayre will
follow the one in June)
We would be
grateful for items relating to our topic for our display.
As usual we will
have a day or 2 in Indian dress- just to give you plenty of notice.
We are very much looking forward
