Produce a world map showing the countries of the British Empire in 1901

 

Build a house or school in the Victorian style.  Use cardboard boxes etc.

 

Make a collection of interesting objects and present them in a Victorian-style display case (shoe box?).  Write a paragraph to explain why you chose these objects, what links them together and what you have learnt about them

 

Design and make

a toy or a game that a Victorian child could have played with

Write a newspaper article about a famous event or person in the Victorian era.

 

Make a poster to encourage Victorian families to take a seaside holiday in a particular resort

Imagine that you are about ten years old and you work in a factory.  Write a guide for new workers, giving them tips on how not to get injured at work

Decide whether you are a rich or a poor Victorian child.  Keep a diary of your activities for a week.  Remember to show how Sunday is a very different day from the rest of the week

Find out whether or not the population of Great Britain changed during Queen Victoria’s reign. Use a spreadsheet to record your findings.  Why are the results

Learn your tables at least up to 10x.  Devise a way of proving that you know and can use tables facts.  (Hint: successful multiplying and dividing need good tables knowledge)

Imagine you are a Victorian child in a family of six (mum, dad, four children) Plan a holiday to the seaside for a week.  Where will you go? How will you get there? What will you do there? How much will it cost?

 

Invent something that the Victorians didn’t! 

Your invention must use levers and pulleys, but no electricity, to make it work

 

Musical/Physical/ Performance

Find out from the internet what type of music was popular during Victorian times. Learn one of the songs.

 

Cook a Victorian recipe.  Evaluate the food

 

Plan a series of drill lessons for a Victorian class.

 

Write a poem or

a song about

the new railway

 

*If you don’t have access to a computer at home, these tasks can be done on paper or by a different method.

Remember to write a paragraph explaining how you used a computer for any of the tasks.  Include what you did and which programs and websites you used.

A note to parents This homework format is to appeal to different learning styles and to increase the variety of homework tasks.  Three tasks per half term are needed, but children may do more.  On completion of each chosen task, your child will receive a green frog award and the homework will be displayed in class.  Thank you for your support.
