Dear Parent,

The Owls Class Linked Learning Module from the beginning of the year until Christmas is Victorian Britain. We shall focus particularly on how the lives of children changed during the Victorian era and we shall investigate the legacy left by the Victorians, both in our own community and in the wider world. In this module, the children will have opportunities to carry out their own research.

This module includes a variety of literacy work:

· fiction : reading “classic texts”(Charles Dickens); story writing; poetry

· non-fiction : information texts; persuasive texts – advertisements; newspaper reports; letters; discussion/argument texts

Mathematics linked to the module is handling data although we shall continue to focus on calculation and problem solving

Science includes

• aspects of keeping healthy
• electrical circuits
• micro-organisms
• dissolving
• forces
• light

Homework tasks build on and supplement work done in class.
