Comenius Report

The first Comenius Meeting was held in Hannover, Germany, from 26th November to 29th November 2009.

Mrs Kling and her staff at Wettbergen School (the school we have been linked to for the last four years) hosted

this first “get-together” and representatives from all eight countries involved were there.

Countries participating are Turkey, Sweden, Spain, Slovakia, Poland, Bulgaria, Germany, Blakeley Heath from

Wolverhampton, and of course Great Creaton.

In most cases this was the first time that the Head Teachers and staff from all the schools had met personally, but

everyone “gelled” and it was a very productive four days.

Mr Camp is the co-ordinator, so fortunately the Comenius language is |English, and the knowledge of our language

by the other delegates was outstanding.

The Comenius theme for our schools is festivals, each country will complete a project on three of their own festivals and

there will be a joint project from most of the countries on Christmas.

Turkey, as Muslims, do not celebrate Christmas, but instead will do a project on the “Feast of Sacrifice”.

The amount of work already undertaken by all schools was outstanding and the enthusiasm was amazing.

We hope that on completion of our project all our children will have a much greater knowledge of life in these

different cultures.

At the end of the two years a book will be produced together with a DVD to show the work that has been produced

and what has been achieved.

It was so rewarding to see how the whole community at the Wettergen school had become involved, teachers,

 parents, governors and their PTA.

As you are aware each class at Creaton has been allocated two countries, reception just one.

We plan that each class will send Christmas Cards to the children in the countries allocated to them.

Bulgaria gave us postcards for our children hoping for pen friends.

The next Comenius Meeting will be a Great Creaton from 28th January 2010 – 30th January, when the group will then go to Blakeley Heath, Wolverhampton until 2nd February.

The first festival from England will be Pancake Day.

This is a very exciting project and I hope we can make our visitors as welcome as the wonderful reception we had in Germany.
