Dear Parents,
We hope you have had a good summer.
During this
Autumn term, the Blackbirds class will be following a unit of work on the theme
of Invaders and Settlers. The first half term will focus on the Romans and the
second half term the Vikings. Where possible we will be linking as many areas
of the curriculum as we can to this theme. Key skills in history and geography will
be achieved through our work on Invaders and Settlers.
- In Literacy, our focus will be on Poetry, Story
settings and openers, Play-scripts and instructional texts.
- Numeracy will follow the renewed Primary Framework
for Mathematics.
- In Science we will be learning about ‘Properties of
materials’. This will be linked to the Vikings in the latter part of the
term when we look at ‘Keeping Warm’ and the materials available to them at
the time.
- In Art/DT we will be designing our own Roman
sandals. The remaining time will focus on painting and drawing linked to
the Invaders and Settlers unit.
- In Music and cookery will also follow our theme for
the term.
- I.C.T. will be embedded in many aspects of the
curriculum with special emphasis on combining text and graphics and ensuring
all children are confident with a range of computer skills and programs.
- R.E. will focus on Christianity during Roman and
Viking times.
·
Units that will be covered in P.E this term are
invasion games and dance.
As always we would be grateful
for items relating to our topic.
We will hopefully be making a
trip to the Tripontium exhibition at Rugby Museum before half term to extend
our knowledge of Roman life.
We are very much looking forward
to an exciting term.
Thank you in advance for your
support.
Yours
faithfully,
Mrs
Jefferson and Mrs Wood
