GERMAN EXCHANGE

We are again pleased to be hosting 15 pupils from our partner school – GS Wettbergen in Hannover Germany.  This link has been going for 3 years with 15 pupil’s from each year doing an exchange visit to either Germany or England.

Whilst at school the pupils from Germany join in with our lessons and we are all involved in producing a large piece of art work for display at Great Creaton Primary School.  In previous years we have had a felt maker in and a chainsaw carver to work with all the exchange pupils.

The pupils stay with English families for the week, arriving at 11.30 pm on Monday and then returning from Birmingham on Friday.  At Great Creaton Primary School we are committed to developing the international aspects of the curriculum and this provides a real opportunity to do so.  We will be returning to Germany in October/November 2009 with a group of our pupils.

CREATON IN BLOOM / ARTS MARK

We are very please to receive the Artsmark as recognition of the work done at school.  Last Sunday the school was open for an art exhibition.  All the pupils in the school had painted an acrylic picture on a canvas with the theme of flowers, these were then displayed in the school hall during Sunday and Monday and members of the public and parents were able to see the art exhibition and purchase the paintings.  This type of activity has enabled the school to gain its first Artmark award.  We hope to repeat this type of exhibition next year to coincide with Creaton in Bloom.

YOUNG WRITERS

Pupils from Great Creaton Primary School were entered in a Rotary Club young writers competition.  This was organised at Great Creaton Primary School by Mrs Russell who decided that the stories were of such a high standard that she would submit them all.  Millie O’Neil was fortunate to be awarded First Prize in the year 4 category for her story titled “Across The Rainbow”, she was presented with her certificate and book voucher for £20.00 by Mr Robin Green of the Northampton West Rotary Club at a special school assembly.

ARRIVAL OF GERMAN STUDENTS TO ENGLAND

Late last night (11pm - 08 June) we received our next assigment of German students from Hannover. They were tired but excited and whisked away by their host families. They will be starting school early in the morning and have a packed week ahead of them.

GERMAN EXCHANGE TRIP

In November 15 pupils from Great Creaton Primary School participated in a Joint Curriculum Project with a school in Hannover Germany sponsored by the British Council.  The aim was for the schools to have a week together in Germany designing and planning a calendar highlighting different festivals and traditions from the two countries.  The festivals and traditions would be translated into the two languages.  The pupils were then asked to produce art work for each month of the year for the calendar.
All this information was brought back to England and compiled into the calendar that was printed in Northampton.
The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their visit and gained a lot of valuable experiences of a different country and culture and the use of a different language.  They found some of the German food different and strange but were very happy with their new friends.
