GREAT CREATON
PRIMARY SCHOOL
INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
Dear Parents
Welcome to Great Creaton
Primary School. I hope that your children settle into life at
the school and are happy and enjoy themselves here. I hope that you manage to join our school
community and feel that you are part of our school.
The school runs and “open door” policy, if
you have any questions please do not hesitate to come in and talk about them.
Below are some pieces of information that
hopefully will make life easier for you and your children as you enter into
your new school.
- School starts at 8.50 am and most pupils arrive between 8.30 am
and 8.50 am, unless they are part of the football club on Wednesday, which
starts at 8.05 am. Parents are very
welcome to come into the playground with their children at the beginning
of the day.
- A bell is rung at 8.50 am and all pupils go into their own
classes through their own doors.
Key Stage 2 pupils can go into class on their own, year 2 pupils
can also go into class on their own and parents can help settle the year 1
and reception pupils in the cloakroom and classroom.
- The school day finishes at 3.15 pm for all pupils except when
there are after school activities i.e. clubs and play rehearsals, in which
case the pupils can be collected from the front of the school at 4.15 pm.
- Parents are very welcome to come into the playground at the end
of the day and wait to collect their children. Parents can arrive anytime after 3.00
pm to wait for their children. If a
class is still doing an activity on the playground when you arrive please
wait outside the gate until the class has finished their activity and gone
inside.
- At school we have fresh filtered cold water, dispensed from a
water fountain, available at all times for the pupils and staff. When a pupil first arrives at school or
on the first day of the new school year, they will be given a labelled
water bottle that can be refilled at the water fountain. Subsequent bottles can be bought from
the office at 50p each.
- We run a “University” afternoon every Friday where the pupils
study courses. Due to this we have
a non-uniform day every Friday.
Pupils are allowed to wear clothes of their own choice on these
days.
- The school runs a text to parents’ scheme where we can send
messages to mobile phones to remind parents of important events. We also send out letters by e-mail. The office will need mobile numbers and
e-mail addresses to enable these facilities to operate.
- The school runs a hot school dinner service using Kingswood
Catering (www.kingswoodcatering.co.uk). Parents can book and pay for meals for
their children directly through Kingswood
on their website.
- A “Fair Trade” shop is run by the Blackbirds class every
Thursday at the rear of the school with profits going to support a school
in India.
- Each Friday we have “biscuit day” when pupils can buy a biscuit
for 5p at break time.
- The school is a Healthy
School and as such
we encourage pupils to eat healthily including at break time when they can
eat healthy snacks. Key Stage 1
pupils all receive free fruit and vegetables each day at break time from
the Government “5 a day scheme”.
- The school is part of the “Cool Milk” scheme and any parent who
would like their child to have milk each day will need to contact the
office to book the milk. All
children under the age of 5 are entitled to free milk but parents must
register their child to receive this milk, any child over 5 has to pay for
the milk.
- The school runs the “Good to be Green” behaviour programme in
which pupils can gain rewards and eventually privilege cards that can be
exchanged at school for extra activities at lunchtimes.
- We hold “Open” assemblies every Thursday from 9.05 am to 9.20
am to which all parents are most welcome to attend. During these assemblies certificates are
given out and class presentations or good work celebrated. All assemblies are held in the hall
unless otherwise notified.
- All pupils receive, each year a home / school communicator. In Key Stage 1 this consists of a blue
book that both parents and teachers can exchange information. In Key Stage 2 the blue books are
replaced by homework diaries – these can also be used by parents and
teachers to exchange information, although we try to place more emphasis on
the pupils relaying the information to their parents.
- At school we have a policy to try and keep the indoor clean and
tidy; all pupils need indoor shoes which they change into once they arrive
at school each day. These indoor
shoes can be soft trainers or plimsolls.
I hope that the above information provides
a good start to the school for both you and your children. If there is anything else that I have left
out please contact the school.
Yours sincerely
Richard Camp
