The Staff and Governors of Great Creaton Primary School are pleased to announce that our school has been acclaimed for their role in the internationally recognised Comenius project which creates a platform for schools from across 27 European countries to exchange ideas and work on shared projects .

For those of you who were wondering about the name the Comenius Programme is named after Jan Amos Comenius often considered the father of modern education.

'We are all citizens of one world; we are all of one blood.'
Jan Amos Comenius, 1592-1670

Comenius is one of the most popular international education programmes for UK schools, colleges and local authorities and it is very rare for a primary school to be included within the project.

Comenius has two main objectives:

to develop knowledge and understanding among young people and education of the diversity of European cultures and languages, and the value of this diversity

to help young people to acquire basic life skills and competences for their personal development, for future employment and for active European citizenship

Comenius School Partnerships also enables pupils, students and staff from across a range of schools across Europe to work together on joint projects.

Great Creaton has been approved as part of a multi lateral partnership with Germany,Spain,Slovakia,Poland,Bulgaria,Turkey and Sweden.

On a recent visit to Creaton, John Rolfe from the British Council for Learning was unstinting in his praise of the work and environment that was in evidence at the school and was full of praise for the approach and forward thinking being shown by the staff in providing the children with such an opportunity.

I think that this is an exciting time for Great Creaton and the pupils are already benefiting from our long partnership with GS Wettbergen in Hannover. The ISA is a just recognition of all the hard work that is put into the school by the staff and pupils. The new Comenius programme will enable the staff to visit other schools and learn about different systems that can be used to enhance the education at our school. Pupils will also have a chance to form links with other pupils in different countries.
